McDonald’s Netherlands shipped a fully AI Christmas spot. Ten people, five weeks, wall‑to‑wall tools. It lasted three days before they pulled it and called it “an important learning opportunity”.
Apple went the other way.
For Apple TV’s new identity, they built the logo in real glass, shot everything in‑camera, and released the behind‑the‑scenes as part of the story. Every shimmer made for real. No CG shortcuts. The labour was the point, and people loved it.
Same era. Same tools on the table. Coke handed the work to AI and got dragged. Apple doubled down on visible craft and got praised. The difference wasn’t the tech. It was who the audience believed was really making the thing.
THE REAL QUESTION
None of this means AI is the villain. The problem isn’t the software. It’s the authorship.
Was a human actually in charge of the idea. Of the judgment calls. Of the taste. Or did the brand hand the mic to a model and post whatever came out.
Audiences don’t care what you used in post. They care that a real person made the decisions.
